Cleaning your carpets can be a hassle—especially when you’re trying to find products that are both effective and safe for your pets and children. Luckily, I have a simple solution using just two ingredients: baking soda and your favorite essential oils. This will turn your Carpet cleaning ritual into a peaceful experience.

To get started you’re going to mix about one cup of baking soda with 15-20 drops of your favorite essential oil- this simple recipe is both affordable and effective. Combine the ingredients in a small bowl or container, then evenly sprinkle mixture over your carpet. Allow your DIY carpet cleaner to sit for a few minutes before Vacuuming thoroughly.

I especially love using this method of carpet cleaner on natural rugs. Since many natural fibers can’t be easily washed cleaned with traditional carpet machines, baking soda helps absorb excess moisture while leaving your rugs smelling fresh and clean.

Highlights

  • Baking soda is a simple yet effective natural deodorizer that works by neutralizing odors at their source rather than covering them up. One of the biggest benefits is that it’s completely non- toxic, making it a safe choice for homes with pets and children. In addition to eliminating odors, baking soda also helps absorb excess moisture, which can build up in carpets and rugs over time and lead to lingering smells.
  • Essential oils are a wonderful way to bring natural fragrance into your space. Derived from concentrated plant extracts, they are incredibly potent, meaning you only need a small amount to achieve a noticeable scent. Beyond their fragrance, many oils are valued for their ability to create a calming soothing environment. That said, not all essential oils are safe for pet, so its important to research and use them cautiously if you have animals in your home.
